While we as citizens of this country are still fighting stereotypes and working towards cracking a formula on ways to curb or end crime and atrocities against women, a ruling BJP MLA, Pannalal Shakya from Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, knows the root cause and has something bizarre to say.

While addressing the students of a government college in Guna on Friday, the BJP MLA according to a report filed by Deccan Chronicle, blamed ‘boyfriend culture’ for the growing incidents of rape and molestation and said,

“Ladkiyan boyfriends kyun banati hain… Nahin banana chahiye aur atyachar bhi nahin honge.”

Standing by what he said, he told Hindustan Times on Sunday,

“I am against western culture and my speech was based on that only.”

This isn’t the first time that Shakya has said something controversial.

He is the same man who had earlier sparked a row by calling Indian skipper Virat Kohli ‘unpatriotic’ for choosing Tuscany as the destination of his wedding with actor Anushka Sharma.
