India’s culture minister Dr Mahesh Sharma caused a bit of a stir on social media when he did this:
Ravi, who is one of the 18 persons allegedly involved in the murder of Mohammed Akhlaq in 2015 over the consumption of beef, died in jail on Wednesday. His hometown, the village of Bisara in Uttar Pradesh, has been tense since his demise.
While Ravi’s family have alleged he died due to police torture, the police has said that he died of complications arising from an ailment. His family had refused to cremate him and had sparked controversy by draping his body with a national flag.
Expectedly, the Culture Minister’s presence in Bisara was criticized by many, especially from the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress:
However, the minister has not responded to any of the criticism.
This isn’t the first time Sharma has been at the centre of a controversy surrounding the shocking incident. The national culture minister had come in for criticism when he claimed that the killing was an accident.
