‘Even If We Are 72, We Can Kill Lakhs,’ Says Bengal Cleric Over Deportation Of Rohingyas

Around 18 Muslim outfits in Kolkata took to the streets on September 12 to protest what they called the genocide of Rohingyas in Myanmar.

According to a report in NDTV, at least 25,000 to 35,000 protesters marched from Park Circus to Rani Rashmoni Road – a distance of about 5 km – and paralysed the traffic. The slogans, banners and posters deplored the de-facto leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) government Aung San Suu Kyi as strongly as Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Myanmar last week but failing to raise the plight of the Rohingyas with the former.

However, one of the members of the Muslims community, a Shia cleric Maulana Shabbir Ali Azad Warsi, delivered a hate speech in the mega rally which is now making buzz for the wrong reasons.

He said, “If the Muslims are in minority, are we weak? You don’t know the history of the Muslims. We are Hussaini Muslims (Shia Muslims), even if we are 72 we can kill lakhs.”

“This is our memorandum to the Delhi Government that Rohingyas are our brothers. Don’t think that the Rohingya Muslims are different from the Muslims of India. We all Muslims are brothers. Don’t try to evacuate the Rohingya Muslims from Bengal. This is Bengal, not Assam, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Muzaffarnagar or Muzaffarpur,” he further said.
