Ex-Armyman Commits Suicide In Delhi To Protest Against The OROP Scheme

A retired army-man allegedly committed suicide over the issue of One Rank One Pension scheme (OROP) in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, police confirmed. 

The 70-year-old ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal committed suicide by consuming poison in his home in the Delhi NCR  area yesterday evening, thoigh other reports claim he did it in a park in Delhi. 

Grewal allegedly wanted to meet Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to complain about OROP, but was deied permission, NDTV reported. 

Police said he along with some other ex-servicemen was in the process of submitting a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP. 

According to his friends, Grewal had been upset over the issue for sometime. Ex-servicemen have been protesting over the OROP scheme introduced by the government. He an others had been carrying out protests in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“He called us and said he is committing suicide as the government has failed to fulfil their demands related to OROP,” Subedar Grewal’s son, Ram Kishan Grewal told news agency ANI. 

According to ANI, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is to Grewal’s family. 

In fact, Kejriwal himself expressed his criticism of OROP on Twitter:

(This means the PM is lying about the implementation of OROP. If it had bee implemented, then Kishan Ji would not have need to kill himself)

 The PM recently announced the allocation of Rs 5,500 crores for the implementation of OROP.
