There are many who believe that Gumnami Baba, who lived in UP’s Faizabad district, was actually Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. And now, there may be some proof to back up this claim.

On Tuesday, one of the boxes belonging to Baba, was opened by the district officials to reveal family photos of the leader of the Azad Hind Fauj. Apart from a family portrait, there’s a photograph of Netaji’s parents, Jankinath Bose and Prabhawati Bose.

Their identities were confirmed by Shakti Singh, the owner of Ram Bhawan where Gumnami Baba spent the final three years of his life, from 1982-85, reported The Times of India

“The family photograph of the Bose family shows 22 members besides his parents,” said Singh. He added that Lalita Bose, the daughter of Netaji’s brother Suresh Chandra Bose, had visited Ram Bhawan in Faizabad on February 4, 1986, and identified the people in the photographs.

There is also a separate photo of Netaji’s parents, Jankinath Bose and Prabhawati Bose. Apart from these, several telegrams sent to Gumnami Baba by Azad Hind Fauj veterans Pabitra Mohan Roy and Sunil Kant Gupta were also found.

After Baba’s death in 1985, 27 boxes containing his possessions were sealed at the Faizabad treasury. The district officials have been in the process of opening these since March 9, surrounded by curious onlookers. Amid other items, a pair of binoculars issued by the German military dating back to World War II and a British portable typewriter have also been discovered.
