Nongthombam Biren Singh Sworn In As Manipur’s First BJP Chief Minister

N Biren Singh was sworn in on wednesday as the Chief Minister of Manipur ending the 15 years of congress rule in the state. 

This is the first time the BJP has come to power in the north-eastern state.

Y Joykumar Singh of the National People’s Party was sworn in as the deputy chief minister. 

Manipur had a hung verdict in the state assembly election, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, BJP came in at second place with 21 seats.But claimed to have the support of MLAs from NPP, NPF, LJP that helped it to from the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Biren Singh after he was sworn in as Chief Minister of Manipur and expressed confidence that his team will work for the state’s development.
