Who remembers Sally Fields believing in her not-so-bright son in Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump? And do you remember the great things Tom Hanks went on to do in that movie? Looks like we’ve found our real life duo of Tom Hanks-Sally Fields. Zou Hongyan gave birth to Ding Ding in 1988 amidst complications, and the doctors informed her about his condition of cerebral palsy.

According to this report in South China Morning Post, her own husband and the doctors tried to convince her to give up on him, Zou refused. She divorced her husband, worked 3 jobs, and coached her son by playing brain boosting games with him.

About 29 years later, the same boy not only has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from Peking University, but is also a student at Harvard Law.

People who heard this story couldn’t stop praising the continuous efforts and perseverance of his mother.

We’ve heard about a mother’s unconditional love for her child, but this story really proves how much it can strengthen them. Also, one can only wonder how proud she would be of him?

Faith in miracles reinstated.
