While sex can be many things, fatal it isn’t, right?

Wrong!

As per a new study, men, more than women, are at a risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) during or after having sex.

For a report published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, more than 4,500 records of cardiac arrest was studied with great detail.

But before you freak out, only 34 cases of heart attacks were reported to have been triggered by sexual activities.

That’s some relief, right?

However, as the report points out, men are more at risk of SCA than women.

Out of the 34 cases, 32 were of men and only 2 were those of women.

Basically, 1% men are at risk of a heart attack during or after sex as opposed to just 0.1% women.

Obviously though, the chances of SCA are higher for heart patients as compared to those with a healthy heart.

One of the major reasons for the deaths due to SCA, as Sumeet Chugh, Associate Director, Cedars-Sinai Heart Insitute, Los Angeles points out, is no Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Even though SCA during sexual activity was witnessed by a partner, bystander CPR was performed in only one-third of the cases.

Basically, live a healthy life and if you’re a heart patient, go easy on the sex. Especially men!
