There are six venues for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be held in India in October, and while of those still have tickets available, the ones for Kolkata were sold out in less than 12 hours.

The first phase of the launch saw venue package tickets priced at Rs 480, Rs 960 and Rs 1920. Kolkata is hosting 10 matches, so the lowest cost of a ticket per match is Rs 48.

“I’ve been told that the Bengalis like football very much, it should reflect on the ticket sales,” the U17 World Cup’s organising committee chief Javier Ceppi had said earlier.

The tickets were available on the tournament website after 1911 hours on Tuesday – corresponding to the iconic year that Mohun Bagan won a match against East Yorkshire Regimen.

Sports Minister Vijay Goel had said that the low pricing was set to ensure full houses during the first FIFA event in India.
