Champion! Super Sindhu Wins China Open, Her First Superseries Title

PV Sindhu reached another milestone in her career as she put in an assured performance in the final of the China Open to win her first ever Superseries event, defeating local favourite Sun Yu 21-11 17-21 21-11 in a hard fought battle.

It was another marathon effort by Sindhu in the space of two days. She was just one step away from clinching her maiden Super Series Premier title after registering a come from behind win over Korea Sung Ji Hyun in the semi-final at the USD 700,000 tournament.

After a dominating first game that she won 21-11, Sindhu lost momentum in the second half of the second game, losing that 17-21 before finishing strongly in the decider.

This is the first time Sindhu has won a Superseries event and she became just the 3rd non-Chinese player to win the China Open Superseries Premier. Saina Nehwal had won the event in 2014.

Sindhu had reached her maiden Super Series final at the Denmark Open last year but the title eluded her as she lost in straight games to 2012 Olympic champion China’s Li Xuerui.
