Gagan Narang Shoots Record 250 Points To Win Silver At International Shooting Competition

SW Staff

Gagan Narang won a silver medal in the 50m rifle prone final of the International Shooting Competition of Hannover, shooting a record 250 points in the process.

Narang missed out on gold by just 0.1 points as Sweden’s Karl Olsson shot a 250.1, but it was a phenomenal performance by the Olympian, who had a torrid Rio 2016.

Japanese shooter Toshikazu Yamashita held the record with a total of 249.8, which he shot during the New Delhi World Cup in February.

Narang was leading with 229.9 points after 22 shots, but a 9.9 in the 23rd shot made the difference between the gold and the silver.

The interesting thing is that the International Shooting Sport Federation will not consider the scores of the Hannover event as official – however, Gagan’s effort will surely be recorded as an Indian national record.

Narang was also shooting while going through the loss of his sports psychologist and mentor Bhishmaraj Bam, who had passed away in Nashik on Friday.
