Gujarat opening batsman Samit Gohel created history on Tuesday after he scored an unbeaten 359 runs in a Ranji Trophy match against Odisha.
His innings, which included 45 fours and one six in 723 balls, took his team to a score of 641. With this feat, Gohel now holds the record of scoring maximum runs in an innings by an opening batsman, reports The Indian Express.
He broke the 117-year old record set by Surrey’s Bobby Abel who scored 357 not out against Somerset at The Oval in 1899.
Gohel has also become the fourth triple centurion in the history of first-class cricket to carry his bat through the innings, reports The Times of India.
