Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh says he’s honoured to receive a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising him and his foundation’s work towards creating awareness about cancer. The southpaw took to Instagram on Friday to share the PM’s letter and termed it as ‘encouraging.’

The left-handed batsman had launched his foundation, ‘YouWeCan Foundation’ in 2012. The organisation aims to fight cancer by creating awareness about the disease.

Modi, in his letter, wrote that several Indians derive inspiration from Yuvraj as he has successfully defeated cancer.

Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer after the 2011 World Cup win. He later underwent chemotherapy treatment in USA and was discharged in March 2012 after beating the disease.

The cricketer returned to India’s ODI squad in early 2017 after three years. However, he was recently dropped from the side for the Sri Lanka series, and questions have been raised over his future as he has only managed to score 162 runs in his last seven ODI innings.
