India U-17 Cricketer Dies In Sri Lanka After Allegedly Drowning In Swimming Pool

In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old Indian boy from Gujarat died in Sri Lanka allegedly due to drowning in a swimming pool of a hotel in Pamunugama on Tuesday evening.

According to Sri Lanka’s Sunday Times, the 12-year-old was in the Island nation as a part of the 19-member Indian team, who are there to take part in a U-17 tournament.

The report stated that four members of the team were in the pool when one of them drowned. The boy was reportedly rushed to Pamunugama Hospital, where he succumbed to death. 

According to various media reports, the boy has been identified as Narendra Sodha. The reason behind the death is still not clear and the police are investigating the matter.

The sad news comes at a time when India’s senior national team are also in Sri Lanka. The Virat Kohli-led side beat the hosts by seven wickets to win the one-off T20I on Wednesday and whitewashed Sri Lanka 9-0 on the tour.
