Indian Deaflympics team, which participated in the 23rd edition of the Summer Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey, were bitterly disappointed after they returned back home on Tuesday morning.

The athletes were disheartened to see that no was around at the Indira Gandhi National Airport in Delhi to welcome the team and celebrate their success. Annoyed with the reception, the athletes decided not to leave the airport as a mark of protest, according to news agency ANI.

46 Indian athletes participated in the Games and the team registered India’s best ever performance at the tournament with four medals, including one gold.

“The day we won the medals, we told the government that we have made the nation proud. These medal winners made the nation proud, but no one, not even the sports minister, is here to welcome us,” team’s interpreter told ANI.

The interpreter also shared that the team was expecting a welcome from the government side for their achievements, but to their dismay, not a single person was there at the airport to receive them.

According to the report, the team also tried to contact sports minister Vijay Goel but he did not speak to them.
