In what is likely to be the final straw that broke the BCCI’s back, the Supreme Court on Thursday told the cricket board to unconditionally implement the Lodha Committee’s reforms. The court asked for an undertaking from the BCCI to that effect, failing which an order will be passed on Friday, binding the BCCI to fully enforce the panel’s suggestions.
With BCCI continuing to insist in court that not all reforms are practical and that the members voted against implementing them in full, the SC bench headed by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur are likely to pass the order on Friday.
The Supreme Court had earlier pulled up the BCCI, asking it to “fall in line” after the Lodha panel sought removal of the top brass of BCCI, including Anurag Thakur and Secretary Ajay Shirke, for non-compliance of the apex court directions.
It said that the BCCI and its office bearers are not complying with directions and repeatedly issuing statements to undermine the authority of the court and the members of the Lodha panel, which had recommended structural reforms in BCCI.
