India head coach Anil Kumble is all set to accompany the team to West Indies for five ODIs and one T20I after his tenure was extended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but skipper Virat Kohli may not be very happy about the fact.

According to a report in The Telegraph, the captain had a meeting with BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which comprises of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, on the eve of the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. Kohli conveyed his “strong reservations” about Kumble to the committee.

“Kohli is very clear about where he stands vis-a-vis Kumble. It seems the relationship is beyond the repair stage… From Kohli’s side, at least…,” a BCCI source told the publication.

“However, the CAC will now meet Kumble and see if a patch-up is possible,” the source added.

Kohli’s stand has put the committee in a fix as India have had a fairly successful campaign under Kumble’s guidance, which includes four Test series wins, two ODI series wins and a T20I series win as well. Reaching the Champions Trophy final is also a notable achievement.

The news of the rift between the coach and the captain broke out before the start of the ICC tournament after BCCI called for fresh applications for the post of head coach. It was reported that Kohli was unhappy with Kumble’s approach towards team matters. The captain, however, denied the reports of fall out ahead of their opening Champions Trophy game against Pakistan.

Kumble’s tenure with Team India was supposed to end with the Champions Trophy but he has been given an extension as the CAC decided to delay the decision on his future.

Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh have al applied for the post while Kumble got a direct entry in the application process.
