Coming in at a stage when India were 92 for 6, Jadeja steered India’s innings with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, taking them closer before just falling short towards the end.
While millions of hearts were shattered instantly, Ravindra Jadeja emerged a hero despite the tragic loss.
They together put up a 106-run partnership for the 7th wicket before Jadeja fell in the 48th over, trying to up the run-rate.
MS Dhoni was run out courtesy a brilliant direct hit by Martin Guptill in the 49th over, thus ending India’s fairy tale journey.
Ravindra Jadeja’s efforts were lauded by the who’s who of cricket, including Sachin Tendulkar and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, who believed Jadeja proved him wrong on all fronts.
Surely, this knock from the Saurashtra all-rounder was indeed the saving grace for India in the semi-final.
