Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup as he won’t be in a position to recover on time for the remaining matches, reports IANS

Mid-day

Dhawan who suffered a fractured thumb against Australia after being struck by a Pat Cummins delivery, went on to score a marvellous century despite the pain.

Later, scans revealed that the century came at a costly price and Dhawan was declared injured for up to 3 weeks, which we know now is not the case.

Promising wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who flew in as a replacement is expected to replace Dhawan.

KL Rahul should still be the first choice to open, like he did against Pakistan, scoring a brilliant half-century.
