Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has denied referring to Virender Sehwag’s “setting” comment as foolish. As per a Press Trust of India (PTI) report, Ganguly had said that Sehwag “spoke foolishly” when he claimed that he failed to land the Team India’s head coach job due to lack of patronage from the powers that be in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Bengal cricketer took to Twitter to clarify that he was misquoted, after PTI had quoted him as saying: “I’ve got nothing to say. Sehwag spoke foolishly (bokar moton boleche).”

In an interview with India TV, former Indian opener Sehwag had claimed that he did not become India coach due to lack of “setting” (a common slang for patronage) in the BCCI.

“Dekhiye main coach isliye nahi ban paaya kyonki jo bhi coach chun rahe the unse mera koi setting nahin tha. (I couldn’t become the coach because I didn’t have any setting with those who were in power of appointing the coach),” Sehwag told the news channel.

Sehwag also said that he had a word with India skipper Virat Kohli and former team director Ravi Shastri before applying for the job. He revealed that he submitted his name after Shastri informed him that he won’t be applying for the job.

Shastri, who was appointed Team India coach over Sehwag, Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody, and Richard Pybus, applied for the job after the deadline was extended by the cricket board.
