US Open: Indian Sumit Nagal To Make Grand Slam Debut Against Roger Federer

On Friday, Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal took on Brazil’s Joao Menezes in the final qualifying round and won the round to earn a spot at the US Open.

And, in what can undoubtedly be called a dream Grand Slam debut, he drew 20 times Grand Slam champion Roger Feder as his opponent for the first clash.

Only 22 years old, Sumit Nagal is the youngest Indian to feature at the US Open in the last 25 years. Despite losing the first set against Menezes, he made an astonishing comeback with 6-4, 6-3 in the final sets.

Ranked 190 in the world, Sumit Nagal – who is the 2015 Wimbledon junior boys doubles champion – is the second Indian to qualify for the US Open 2019, after Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
