Twitter Explodes As Jeakson Singh Scores India’s First Goal In A Football World Cup

Manipur’s Jeakson Singh etched his name in the history books on Monday as he became the first Indian footballer to score in a football World Cup. 

India lost their second match in the ongoing Under-17 World Cup 2-1 to Colombia at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. But the game will always be remembered for the historic goal.

The midfielder scored a fine header in the 82nd minute to draw level after Juan Penaloza’s 51st minute goal put India 1-0 down. The hosts looked set to earn their maiden draw in the showpiece event, but Penaloza scored his second goal in the 83rd minute to win the match for the Colombians.

Indian football fans took to Twitter to celebrate the historic goal.
