With 4 Matches Abandoned Already, This World Cup Is Officially Turning Out To Be A ‘Dampener’

More games have been abandoned due to rain in the past week than have in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cup, a tournament which first started in 1975.

Yesterday’s game between India and New Zealand was the third game to have been washed out in the last 4 days.

At this point, almost all of us are left wondering how did the ICC miss out the part where it frequently rains during the English summer.

Surely, they must have thought about it. I mean, it’s only the biggest cricket tournament. People literally wait 4 years for it.

So why exactly are we in this mess?

I mean, you could have had a reserve day for each game. But then again, with the current format of the tournament, that would have led to more confusion.

So what’s the solution?

I don’t know. I don’t work for the ICC. I am just another really frustrated fan, just like you. And just like you, I would like to see some fucking cricket!

You might think that I’m overreacting, but let’s assume rain screws the India and Pakistan game on Sunday. That would suck so bad, wouldn’t it?

Which is when the Ashes test series happens.

So naturally, the World Cup had to be hosted before that. Which is truly a disgrace. Now, the Ashes test series is one of the most important bilateral test series of our time. But so is the World Cup.

The World Cup is the greatest trophy in the most popular version of the sport and needs to be treated with respect as its status commands! And no other tournament, neither the IPL nor the Ashes should have the power to disrupt it.
