Amazon Prime Video Is Now Available In India For Just Rs 499 A Year

Amazon launched its keenly-awaited Prime Video streaming service in India today. The app is currently available on the Google Play Store and is soon expected to make a debut on the Apple App Store, reports Indian Express.

Prime Video is an additional service for Amazon’s Prime subscribers and allows them to stream movies and TV shows – both Indian and international including Amazon’s original series.

The Amazon Prime service, that was launched in India in July this year, costs Rs 999 for yearly-subscription but as part of Amazon’s introductory offer, Indians can avail the yearly Prime subscription at Rs 499.

The offer had made Prime Video the least expensive video streaming service in India. Netflix charges at least Rs 500 per month for its service, reports Mashable.

The Seattle-based e-commerce giant last month revealed its plan to launch the on-demand video streaming service in India but hadn’t given an exact date. The Grand Tour team had tweeted that Amazon Prime Video will soon be available in over 200 countries.

Unlike Netflix, Amazon has focused on striking deals with local content generators to have  localized content across genres. Apart from offering a slew of Hollywood and Bollywood movies in India, Amazon has also acquired rights to regional blockbusters like Kabali and Theri, reports Business Standard.
