The most anticipated smartphone of 2019 is finally out and as expected, the phones come with some insane camera features that will definitely set a benchmark in smartphone photography and of course the Project Soli that everyone was waiting for. We are talking about Google’s Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.
However, if you were planning to buy the latest Google flagship, we have got bad news for you, according to Firstpost, the new Pixels are not coming to India. Yes, we are not kidding, the Pixel 4 won’t officially be launching in India. If you have been stuck wondering about the reason, well, it is because of a feature that the phone has.
The company has equipped its Pixel 4 with a motion gesture chip called Soli. The chip makes it possible for users to wave their hand over the phone to use some of its features like changing tracks, silent incoming calls, snooze alarms and more.
So what’s the problem here? It turns out that the Indian government does not allow devices to use 57 to 64GHz frequency band in the country.
So, it seems that Google failed to attain permission to use the Soli radar system. Without the radar chip, Google won’t be able to justify the top bezel and the price of the device.
According to News18, Google’s spokesperson made an announcement stating,
Google has a wide range of products that we make available in different regions around the world. We determine availability based on a variety of factors, including local trends, and product features. We decided not to make Pixel 4 available in India. We remain committed to our current Pixel phones and look forward to bringing future Pixel devices to India.
It’s better to not launch an expensive phone where one of the key features is missing and that’s exactly what has happened in this situation. For those who were eagerly anticipating the launch of the phones, this comes as a setback.
