The Swedes are tight with the Nature. There are lakes, forests, greenery, mountains, and hills aplenty for you to explore in Sweden. The beautiful countryside of Sweden has been enlisted on Airbnb for anyone to go live, camp. hike, and pretty much stay enjoying the nature for as long as they please.
Sweden’s official website for tourism and travel information Visit Sweden and Airbnb have joined hands to bring this awesome-sauce campaign to life. And for what? To practice what they preach.
“Allemansrätten – or the freedom to roam – is a principle protected by Swedish law that gives all people the right to be free in Swedish nature. In other words, Swedish nature isn’t just a piece of land with trees and lakes and cliffs – it’s a home with all the necessities and amenities that any great home should have. It’s a place where you can eat berries from the ground, sleep under the stars, swim in the lakes and roam freely. To make this home available for everyone, Sweden has listed the entire country on Airbnb” – says the Airbnb page.
So here’s how Freedom To Roam works:
- You are allowed to access any land, except private residences, the immediate vicinity (70 meters) of a dwelling house and cultivated land. No trespassing of course!
- You can put up a tent. Yay!
- You are allowed to collect flowers, mushrooms and berries. Channel the rustic in you!
- Driving on private roads is allowed unless there’s a sign saying otherwise. Cycle in the countryside, swoon!
- Swimming in lakes is allowed. Natural pools yo!
- You can access any beach as long as you stay away from private residences.
- You are allowed to catch fish in the five big lakes and along the entire coastline. So so cool!
So all you have to do is a grab a tent, pack a suitcase, set camp at any publically owned land, oh. and behave yourself. Remember, ‘do not disturb and do not destroy’.
