According To This Survey, 40% Delhiites Feel The City Is Unsafe

An NGO, Praja Foundation, undertook a survey to gauge what percent of people feel unsafe in the cities of Delhi and Mumbai.


According to The Times Of India, in the report, ‘State of Policing and Law and Order’, 40 percent of people feel unsafe in Delhi as compared to the 14 percent of Mumbaikars who feel unsafe.

According to Business Standard, among the 28,624 households across Delhi, 50 percent also feel that the city is not safe for women, children and senior citizens.

However only 21 percent of Mumbaikars felt that the city is unsafe for women, children and senior citizens.

Of the people who felt least secure in Delhi were the skilled and unskilled labour classes.

According to The Times Of India, a senior officer from the Delhi Police said,

“The force is committed to ensure the safety of citizens. We have launched several community policing initiatives and have trained over two lakh women and girls under our self-defence programme in 2017, for which we also entered the Limca Book of Records. Heinous crimes like rapes, murders have seen a decline over the last couple of years.”

According to the publication, in order to understand and bridge the gap between police functioning and what people expect, Delhi police has involved the Quality Council of India to conduct a public perception survey.
