Akshay Kumar & Aranya Johar’s Powerful Poem On Stigma Around Menstruation Shatters Taboos

Menstruation is still a taboo topic for most Indians. Even with all the government programmes and advertisements, women still struggle to find easy access to basic hygiene and menstrual products. What’s more, there is still so much stigma and superstition attached to periods.

This is the taboo that Bollywood’s upcoming film, Pad Man is trying to deal with. It chronicles the true story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who experimented and created cheap sanitary napkins for rural women in south India. In order to promote the film and help break the taboo, Akshay Kumar teamed up with YouTube star and spoken word poet, Aranya Johar and it is as moving as it is powerful. Have a listen for yourself:

That’s right – Kyunki har ladki, ek bleeding rani hai.
