Meet The Brave Volunteers Who’ve Been Short-Listed For The One Way Mission To Colonize Mars

“Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.”

These lines from Interstellar ring true when we look at how few people have taken it upon themselves to ensure that the human species gets a second chance at establishing another home. We’ve done some pretty great things on this planet but we, as a collective, have also ruined it. Call it greed, necessity or the machine of industry, we have made this world pretty inhospitable for our future generations. It’s only fair that we use science to bail us out of this pickle instead of sitting idle and doing nothing, calling it God’s wrath or whatever.

Here’s a 10 minute documentary about 3 of the 4 people who have been shortlisted for the first leg of the Mars One mission – a one way trip to Mars that is scheduled to commence in 2024. These people, if they decide to go ahead with it, will never return to earth. So does this make it a suicide mission?

The documentary, aptly titled If I Die On Mars has been released by The Guardian on their YouTube channel. Check it out.

There’s a thin line between crazy and brave, isn’t it?
