This Revolutionary Condom Will Change Colour If It Detects Sexually Transmitted Infections

Osien Kuumar

Regardless of the fact that it might be super creepy to watch a condom change its colour in the middle of some love-making, here is (possibly) a sex-life-changing invention for all of us. And in a good way.

Behold the latest, smart condom in town called the S.T.EYE that ‘glows’ in order to detect Sexually Transmitted Infections ( STIs) during intercourse.

The idea behind this condom is to combat rising rates of STIs, amongst teens especially.

Surprisingly, a team competing at the TeenTech Awards , a competition challenging 11 to 16-year-old kids to come up with “technology to make life better, simpler or easier”, came forward with this product.

They explained how the condom actually works:

The warning colours are: Yellow for herpes; G reen for chlamydia; Blue for syphilis and Purple for finding the human papillomavirus.

There is a layer of chemicals on the surface of the condom that is usually found in STI bacteria and viruses, which on mixing with STI germs emits a low fluorescent light. Quite smart, right?

One of the founders, 14-year-old Daanyaal Ali, from Isaac Newton Academy, said:

“We wanted to create something that makes detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors.

We’ve made sure we’re able to give peace of mind to users and make sure people can be even more responsible than ever before.”

Well people, don’t get too excited yet. The condom is yet to hit the stores and is a mere concept at the moment. In any case, let’s hope for the best.
