Asaram Bapu, the self-styled godman who was accused of raping a minor girl at his Jodhpur ashram, has been found guilty by a trial court.
According to a report by the Indian Express, Asaram has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court after his conviction in the rape case.
He was arrested on August 31, 2013 following a sexual harassment complaint against him and has already spent 5 years in jail.
The other two accused in the case — Shilpi and Sharad Chandra — have been sentenced to 20 years each in jail.
In another case, two Surat-based sisters had lodged separate complaints against the Godman and his son Narayan Sai, accusing them of rape.
