The trailer for the Dick Cheney biopic Vice dropped yesterday, and people had only one thing on their minds - How the heckin' heck does Christian Bale do it?

Christian Bale is a thespian chameleon. The man is capable of manipulating his body to fit whatever a role demands of him. Here are some of his most unbelievable transformations .

1. American Psycho (2000)

Patrick Bateman is obsessed with physical of social perfection, among other things. This meant he was built like a Greek god, sculpted and totally not a murderous crazy person.

2. The Machinist (2004)

Still considered one of the most extreme transformations by any actor, Bale lost almost 30 kilos for his role as an insomniac. Apparently he didn't even visit a nutritionist, and instead went on a diet of cigarettes and whiskey.

6. American Hustle (2013)

Playing a fat and balding con-man meant putting on 20 kilos, which would seem to not be much of an issue for this human silly putty. While the results were stunning, Bale suffered a herniated a disk in his back and lost 3 inches in height due to the weight gain.
