Diwali is all about spreading joy and sharing happiness with each other. Each one of us has a unique way of bringing the festivities to life. The festive season is one period where we get to showcase different sides of our personality in the way we celebrate. Be it the way we dress, the sweets we relish, or the places we get together to celebrate. Diwali has truly evolved to become a festival that marries tradition with modernity.
The other day, I stumbled upon this Citi video that brought this insight to life for me…
It was a video of a family doing pooja where a newly-wed daughter-in-law joined the festivities. She had a tattoo on her arm and didn’t really want to hide it as it was a part of her unique take on celebrations. Shocked at the boldness, some family members broke into side conversations, judging her for her choices. Watching her not being accepted by her family was poignant, but that was when something unbelievable happened! While her husband became conscious and tried to cover up her tattoo, his mother unfurled her dupatta to show it off. She then gave her a hug as a sign of acceptance of her young daughter-in-law’s unique style and take on Diwali dressing. Citi’s #MyKindOfDiwali video lauds the spirit of families who accept the uniqueness which each of us brings to the festivities. Watch the video and try not to get misty-eyed
