According to a report by NDTV, Uber’s new service, UberBOAT will cover the already existing ferry routes around the seas of Mumbai.
After taxis, bikes, and food delivery, Uber India is all set to launch its boat services in Mumbai.
The company will deploy speedboats to connect Gateway of India to Elephanta Islands and Gateway of India to Mandwa Jetty. There will be two variants of boats – UberBOAT with a capacity of 6-8 passengers and UberBOAT XL with a capacity of more than 10 passengers.
Speaking to NDTV, Prabhjeet Singh, Head of Cities, Uber India and South Asia, said:
“We aim to provide efficient and easily accessible services to riders who are looking at navigating through these specific routes. With this service, boat operators will be able to gain access to Uber’s highly engaged rider base and enhance their earning opportunity.”
Earlier Uber India was planning to launch the new service from February 1, but the launch has been stalled due to ‘unforeseen operational reasons’.
Due to unforeseen operational issues, the Uber Boat pilot in Mumbai will not go live tomorrow. Our teams are working hard to ensure that we launch the service on our platform as soon as possible.

The estimated price per ride would be approximately between ₹5,700 to ₹9,500.
As opposed to the conventional ferries, Uber will be employing speed boats, thus reducing the travel time to a large extent.
