Nothing like a chilled beer to finish pretty much every sweltering hot summer day, right? Well, fellow suckers-for-beer, I have some interesting news for you. You may never look at beer the same way again, for there is now a beer out there that’s actually been made from piss.

Yep, you read that right – we’re talking about a beer called Pisner (lol, clever) that’s been made with the use of actual human urine. And suffice it to say that mankind’s weakness for beer has stepped it up a couple of levels with this brand new innovation.

According to the BBC, 2 years ago, 50,000 litres of urine was collected at Roskilde, north Europe’s largest music festival and a Danish brewery chose to use it all to fertilise their fields of malting barley, instead of using the usual animal manure or factory-produced yield supplements.

“When the news that we had started brewing the Pisner came out, a lot of people thought we were filtering the urine to put it directly in the beer and we had a good laugh about that,

According to Denmark’s Agriculture and Food Council, such large scale use of human waste as a fertiliser is quite an exciting new innovation. They seem pretty happy with ‘beercycling’ – their name for this new practice of utilising human piss that could bring us the ultimate sustainable hipster beer – which, obviously, contains no actual human piss.

One Roskilde attendee, Anders Sjögren, gave the Pisner a delightfully surprised review. “If it had tasted even a bit like urine I would put it down, but you don’t even notice.”

Stuff

The 50,000 litres sourced from the Roskilde music festival were enough to have brewed around 60,000 bottles of the Pisner. So if you think about it, the world got back more beer than the piss it invested. Not a bad deal at all, if you ask me.
