A lot has been written about the Game of Thrones finale, most of it terrible. Things just fell apart, and slowly, we’ve come to accept it. One of the more interesting talking points about the last episode was Drogon mourning the death of Dany.

Remember how he wails into the sky, and then proceeds to direct his rage at the Iron Throne, melting it with dragon fire?

We all assumed a lot of weight to that scene. It felt like one of those times that would live on in fantasy lore. We attributed multiple meaning to it and the significance of what it showed.

Some of us thought he burnt it down because he saw it as the real reason Dany was killed.

Or that he saw it as the root cause of all suffering in King’s Landing, and decided to do away with it altogether.

According to the script however, he just burns it down by accident. BY ACCIDENT.

He breathes fire on the back wall, blasting down what remains of the great red blocks of stone. We look over Jon’s shoulder as the fire sweeps toward the throne — not the target of Drogon’s wrath, just a dumb bystander caught up in the conflagration. We look through the blades of the throne as the flames engulf it, and blast the wall behind it.

Yup, this excerpt, which is on the Emmys website, clearly shows that there was no greater meaning to Drogon’s fiery spectacle. The throne just happened to be in the way. Obviously, the internet fucking lost its shit at the sheer lameness of it all.

So there you go. The anti-climax of the century. Thanks D & D!
