Movies are a part of our lives and some of the most famous dialogues are an irreplaceable part of our conversations. We love it when we get to use a famous dialogue in our daily life. Things like, ‘I like the smell of napalm in the morning’ can be used after beating your friends on Call of Duty. But some dialogues are misquoted because of general ignorance. 

Here are a few misquoted dialogues from different popular movies:

1. Empire Strikes Back

Quoting it wrong: “Luke, I am your father.”

The Actual Quote: “No. I am your father.”


2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Quoting it wrong: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”

The Actual Quote: “Magic Mirror on the Wall, who is the Fairest one of all?”


3. Star Trek

Quoting it wrong: “Beam me up, Scotty!”

The Actual Quote: “Scotty, beam me up”.

4. Apollo 13

Quoting it wrong: “Houston, we have a problem.”

The Actual Quote: “Houston, we’ve had a problem.”

5. Jaws

Quoting it wrong: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!”

6. Dirty Harry

8. A Few Good Men

Quoting it wrong: “You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth.”

The Actual Quote: (It’s a conversation between Nicholson and Cruise)

Nicholson: “You want answers?”

Cruise: “I want the truth.”

Nicholson: “You can’t handle the truth!”

9. Forrest Gump

Quoting it wrong: “My mama always said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates.'”

The Actual Quote: “My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates.”

10. Casablanca

Quoting it wrong: “Play it again, Sam.”

The Actual Quote: “You played it for her, you can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can. Play it!”

11. Wizard of Oz

Quoting it wrong: “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”

17. Justice for all

The Actual Quote: “You’re out of order! You’re out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They’re out of order!”

18. Sherlock Holmes

Quoting it wrong: “Elementary, my dear Watson!”

This was never said by Sherlock in any of the books and this phrase was first mentioned in a movie review in 1929.


Quoting it wrong: “Good evening, Mr Bond. We’ve been expecting you.”

These lines have never been used by any Bond villain ever. It’s just a pop-culture trope that stuck to our memories.


20. This is Spinal Tap

Quoting it wrong: “This one goes to eleven.”

The Actual Quote: “These go to eleven.”
