The 71st Emmy nominations are finally out and have brought quite a fair share of surprises. With 32 nominations, HBO’s Game of Thrones broke the record for the maximum nominations for a drama series in a year.
A not-so-close second was Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which landed 20 nominations.
HBO really was the winner as far as nominations were concerned, because their limited series Chernobyl also won 18 nominations across multiple categories.
Phoebe-Waller Bridge’s relatable, emotional, and humorous, tragicomedy Fleabag also landed 11 nominations, and in fact, all the female stars from the show landed a nomination.
There’s no denying it: #Fleabag is a work of art. Congrats to the cast and crew on receiving 11 #Emmys nominations! pic.twitter.com/h6upb5QKsy

And if we’re talking about female leads, it’s interesting to note that four of our favourite GoT stars are actually battling it out in the same category.
First-time nominees Sophie Turner and Gwendoline Christie, along with Lena Headey and Maisie Williams have been nominated in Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Other first-time nominees include Mandy Moore (This Is Us), Amy Adams (Sharp Objects), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) and others.
Additionally, while Veep and Game of Thrones have long been Emmy favourites, new shows like Russian Doll, Killing Eve, When They See Us, Schitt’s Creek also won a fair share of nominations as well.
