There are times when we feel low. And we can’t really put our finger on what has let us down. It might be the totality of it all. It might be one seemingly insignificant instance that tipped the balance of things we can put up with and it all comes crashing down.

An Instagram post by actor, R Madhavan, captures this exact state of feeling dejected and offers a simple and comforting solution to it.

He starts by talking about coming to a standstill in one’s career and the panic it creates in their hearts. It’s very easy to say, ‘do what you love’. And very difficult to follow through-

How do we discover what do we want? How do I discover what do I enjoy? I understand life gives many opportunities to discover new things that you love in life. But you don’t get so many opportunities in terms of career, right? I am sorry. I am in the same place. And I panic when all everyone says is do what you love.

In a 4-slide post, he goes on to talk about how to actively get out of this gloomy state and lift your spirits up.

So, that’s exactly what I want to tell you. Be open and make an effort to gain new experiences. Make an effort to meet (in person not on social media) new people. Engage in conversations. Make an extra effort to dress up and go for new gatherings and parties. (Get) out of your comfort zone. Believe the world is full of good people and smile. Listen not just hear.

He advises people to get out of their comfort zone and interact with others. And in these new horizons, somewhere, we’ll land our life’s purpose. It might not be a straight road to our goals after that. We might stumble. But, so what? At least we’ll learn. And we’ll be better.

Somewhere in all the new horizons and people is hidden your current life’s purpose. Find it, grab it, and devote yourself to it. You will fail. Pick yourself up. Dust off and follow up again. Now you are armed with the failure and the experience. The victory is in the experience you will attain.

It does not come easy to everyone to just go out and talk to people. For some, it is a nightmare in itself. However, it is strangely comforting to know that be it stars or the common folks like us, everybody feels low sometimes. And it is absolutely okay to acknowledge that.
