Most of us have watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S too many times to miss out on any detail. We know it all too well now. The characters, the guest appearances, who said what in which episode; we remember every tiny little detail of the show. Except one. Who was the ugly naked guy? Most of us have struggled to find out the answer to this mystery, but alas!
The Ugly Naked Guy, first appeared in the episode, The One With The Giant Poking Device, where Monica, Rachael, Phoebe and Joey made a giant poking pole and poked the guy from across the building to see is he’s alive or not. Remember now?
He reappears in Season 5 for a small scene in The One Where Everybody Finds Out. Here, we see Ross sitting naked, and eating muffins to coax him to give up his apartment to him. Which we know worked out pretty well.
The naked guy’s identity was never revealed during or after the show. When we were struggling to figure out who he was, Todd Van Luling, senior staff writer with Huffington Post, made this his mission. Even after failing a couple of times, he didn’t lose hope. And as fate would have it, he actually found out who the guy is! Yes, he did.
Although it was assumed that the naked guy was played by Michael Hagerty, the janitor, it wasn’t so. When Todd reached out to Hagerty to confirm this piece of information, he replied in the negative. And so began the quest with a fresh new start.
After digging through hordes of files and chasing casting directors, directors, and even actors, Todd finally found the guy who played The Naked Guy. He goes by the name of Jon Haugen, and this is how he looked at the time of the show’s airing.
We’re so happy that we won’t have to rewind, pause, and play that episode again and again, anymore.
Also, Todd, that’s some serious dedication there!
