Cervical cancer leads to abnormal growth of cells near the cervix that spreads to other parts of the body. It has been becoming a leading cause of death among female cancer patients, according to WHO.

However, in a remarkable new development, Dr. Eva Ramón Gallegos with her research team at Mexico’s National School of Biological Sciences (ENCB) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), has found a 100% cure for cervical cancer, according to UK Express.

After 20 painstaking years of hard work, this Mexican scientist has finally developed a cure to eliminate Human papillomavirus (or HPV) and prevent the spread of cervical cancer.

HPV is a group of 150 related viruses of which at least 14 can cause cervical cancer according to UK Express.

This team has spearheaded and tweaked the study of photodynamic therapy, that fights HPV.

In a Radio Guama report, Dr. Gallegos explains that the therapy has no side-effects on healthy cells, unlike other treatments.

“Unlike other treatments, it only eliminates damaged cells and does not affect healthy structures. Therefore, it has great potential to decrease the death rate from cervical cancer.”
