We all are aware of the ill effects of smoking but people generally ignore the warnings and don’t want to quit.

However, this shocking video of a 52-year-old man’s tar-filled lungs who smoked a pack of cigarettes per day for 30 years might make you think again about quitting this killer habit.

Human lungs are generally pink but this smoker’s lungs were not only charcoal in colour but also extremely inflamed from years of tobacco residue clogging them up.

According to the Daily Mail, after the man died, doctors from the Wuxi People’s Hospital in Jiangsu, China, extracted his organs. They also recorded the video of the clogged organs and uploaded it to social media with a caption, ‘Do you still have the courage to smoke?’

The video has been viewed more than 25 million times and people are calling it the ‘best anti-smoking ad ever’.

The man had signed up to donate his organs after his death. However, medics quickly realised they would not be able to use them for any purpose.

Dr Chen, Vice President of the facility and the lung transplant surgeon who lead the operation said,

Initial oxygenation index tests were okay, but when we harvested the organs, we realised we wouldn’t be able to use them.

According to WHO, tobacco kills more than 8 million people every year. More than 7 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

So next time before lighting a cigarette, think about the consequences.
