Of all the reasons that people have been fired for, you wouldn’t think an emoji could be one.

A Chinese employee was reportedly fired for replying with an ‘ok’ emoji to her boss on a messaging app.

The manager of the bar in Changsha asked the employee to send some meeting documents, to which the employee sent an emoji.

He said

You should use text to reply to the message if you have received it. Don’t you know the rules? Is this your acknowledgement?

And then things escalated pretty quickly and absurdly as he asked the employee to contact the human resources department and sort out her resignation.

The employee said,

The resignation is still being processed. I have worked for many years and this is my first encounter with this kind of stupid situation. I am good-tempered therefore I didn’t retaliate.

Not just this, as of now the bar requires all its members to respond with ‘Roger’ when they receive instructions.

And here you thought your boss was an a**hole.
