“Yoga keeps you in shape.”

“Yoga is beneficial for back pain.”

“Yoga improves your mental health.”

What people giving such advice don’t realise is that doing yoga isn’t as easy as it seems because it’s much more than kapalbhati and anulom vilom. And if you’ve ever tried yoga, you’d know the ‘ground’ realities associated with it.

Adriana Rodríguez León, an illustrator, shows how things turn out in reality, when you start practising yoga, and trust me it’s nothing like they show in the videos and on Instagram.

Upward plank pose. Oh lord… I am always complaining but… Girl this yoga pose was even harder than expected, because I can do chaturanga very well now! 👀 I was confused and didn’t even know what was going on. I had to keep my arms in place, my back straight, my legs in place… And my shoulders felt like they were going to fell apart! Like really? All this time doing exercise and this happens? 😂 lol but what was almost impossible was to get my hips up without hardening my buttocks! 👀💦 I was sweating like crazy. But when I finished my routine I felt so good… Like if I just had a massage. 💁🏻‍♀️ do you have the same problems? Please leave your experience with this pose in the comments! Literally falling head over heels.

Tripod headstand. Sirsasana II. for beginners. I did this and the first time I fell on my side, I don’t know how it happened but I was in the floor… If it wasn’t that I was warm my neck could have been hurt. This pose needs a lot of work in all your body, a lot of strength in the core, and the arms for balance. I was in all fours before doing the pose, I slowly went on my head, on my pillow hehe, and one knee then the other… It was pretty intense really. I couldn’t do it properly. Now I know not to use a pillow and use a blanket instead. I have to work on my back a bit more. But I think that everything happens time to time. Keep going forward! Reclining hand to big toe pose. Supta Padangusthasana. It went better than expected, I notice I need to get a strap so it gets easier to do the pose. Well this pose it’s great for flexibility in the hips and the legs. Also good for the back and digestion. The back of my legs were a bit stiff but it didn’t bother me so much. Adho Mukha Vrksasana. Headstand on wall (beginners) well I am feeling better and healthier. I did a bit of yoga today and tried this again. And I my arms are stronger. But the pose was hard to stay on. My core wasn’t strong enough to stay there more than one breath. My feet kept slipping! 😭 even though I took my socks off. Oh well… Gotta do more yoga and try it another day. Urdhva prasarita padasana. This posture is great for the your hips and core. You can do it against the wall like me for beginners or do it without help and give your core a good exercise. I will try it later like that. But I was a bit tired. Since I didn’t know I was going to do this pose in the routine I had to adjust my ponytail 😗 like almost every time I do a pose I have to lay on my back! Hahaha. Have a wonderful day everyone! Rabbit pose. This pose helps you lengthen the spine, stimulates the immune system, the digestion, and emotionally makes you happier and sleep better! Well… My head can’t take this pose for too long. It hurts! And I cant even touch my ankles! 😂 why does it looks so effortless!? I think it will take a lot of time for me to do this pose. If you can do this one you have my respect and more! 😱 wow! My back is like a table, not bending enough a hahaha. Oh well… More practice to come. I will make a drawing when I can make it (in about 100 years 😂) I’ve been working on my flexibility this past month. Now my legs don’t hurt that much when I do the forward fold. Heron pose. Krounchasana. I’ve been doing yoga this past days, so the hero pose wasn’t difficult to do. Yayyyy for me! Haha. But once I started lifting my leg to do the variation I stumbled, it felt a bit strange, it didn’t hurt. But the main reason is because I have my hamstrings are very stiff (still) I always have that trouble when I need to do poses with my extended legs… 🙁 but this pose helps on that so I need to be patient and do it more until I reach my goal! ❤️ I hope everyone is having a great week! Half lotus. I’ve been feeling better this days. My health and my body is stronger. The weather is warmer, I keep doing my yoga almost every day. And the half lotus pose is something I can do now that months ago was almost impossible! And I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you guys something I’ve been keeping to myself, this past months I’ve been featured in some websites and I keep reading messages where people say that they can do every pose I struggle with and they aren’t sporty at all. But everyone is different, I don’t take them at heart, so if you are in my situation and get a negative comments don’t take it seriously. I still struggle so in some poses but I don’t compare myself with other yogi persons either, I do the same with my drawings, I compare myself with me days, months or years ago and see if my progress is better. Bow pose. Dhanurasana. Oh dear, we’ll today I had a great time with my yoga routine, it was very relaxing. And I was surprised by this pose… It needs a lot of flexibility and strength in the core so you can stay there for many breathings. I was very careful and didn’t ate anything before. Your neck has to be very relaxed so you don’t hurt yourself because you can feel it kind tenses out if you try to do strain it a bit. 😱 my breathing was a bit difficult because of the weight but nothing impossible. Camel pose. It’s been a while since I uploaded yoga poses! Been busy but I bring to you another pose I have struggle more than expected. I only lasted for two difficult and heavy breaths. My hands didn’t touch the soles of my feet! I barely touched my heel of the foot! I had to put my hands on the ground on my side so I did not fall or hurt myself. It was very difficult… Is it just me? Or this pose is like this? Cow variation. This pose makes me struggle I’m my balance since the beginning but still I have manage to stay in it. And my flexibility has improved. My endurance is better because even though I have my right wrist broken before it doesn’t hurt anymore. I am very happy to say that I can do it. Serpent pose. I did this pose yesterday and damn, I’ve done it before but I still struggle when my stomach and ribs are in the floor. Too much pressure in them. And still having trouble with the breathing I have to take small breathes while I am doing it. My legs tend to be very tense so I don’t tumble. But nevertheless I am having a lot of fun doing yoga. 😭❤️ still more to go! I wish I had more time to do more yoga every day! How do you handle this pose? Fish pose. I did this pose.. It helps to stretch the belly, neck muscles and helps relieve tension in the neck and shoulders… The thing is… It didn’t help me at all! I was so uncomfortable with my hair that I was very tense… I move it on top on the right and didn’t help. But I plan to do it next time with a pony tail on top or a high bun… I don’t know if happened to you… My chest and tummy felt very nice and worked out after the pose. :3 ❤️ I hope you are having and excellent day! Anantasana. Side-reclining leg lift. Today’s posture was a little bit complicated. Not because of the stretching or my lack of flexibility… But the balance! You do it on your side body and you take your toes with your hand from the same side… And raise it toward the ceiling… At that moment I started rolling on my back like 3-4 times before I could barely stay there! I don’t know if it had happened to you but this pose made me sweat a lot because I was struggling on my balance! haha 😂 have a great day!
