Growing up we only knew about the moon and got excited when a lunar eclipse would take place. Some of our moms would go ape shit about eating any food after the eclipse began but that was it.

Now, every once in a while, you open the newspaper and you can read about blood moon, buck moon, wolf moon etc. Hell, there is even a strawberry moon.

Maybe I have been living under a rock but all these seem pretty weird and new to me. I mean, a few years ago, everyone thought ‘blue moon’ was just a phrase people used.

Did you know that it is actually a very rare phenomenon where the moon actually appears blue,  owing to smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere?

People apparently saw the blue moon for years after Mount Krakatoa exploded in 1883.

Also, there is another phenomenon called the Black moon. It refers to an additional new moon that appears in a month or in a season or to the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in a month.

I wish we could go back to the old days when there was just a new moon to a full moon cycle and life was simpler without having an added flavour of the strawberry moon in the middle of the week.
