Post-Baahubali, trust regional cinema to take the mantle of pushing the boundaries of what Indian cinema is capable of. And with the trailer of Tik Tik Tik, Kollywood look poised to take 2017 by storm.

The only problem is, as India’s first space film (which the makers proclaim many times) – it looks a bit too inspired.

The trailer starts off with saying how a large asteroid is headed towards Chennai (obviously, cos Kollywood) – and how it will change the shape of India.

Hmm… not that it reminds any of us of Michael Bay’s Armageddon, which released all the way back in 1998.

They hire an illusionist with the reputation of getting out of the most doomed places. Surely, he can nuke an asteroid out and GTFO on the (presumably) ISRO spaceship?

There are a few members of an international cast – who fight the hero. Not reminding us of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine. There’s also probably a thread involving a father and son, not reminding us of Interstellar.

Oh and that last shot from the trailer – surely doesn’t bring back images from Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity.

Are we reading too much into it?  Watch the whole trailer here and decide.

The film comes out on December 22, 2017.
