And for a lot of Indians who move to other cities to pursue their studies, run their businesses or move ahead in their careers, their hearts are firmly placed in their respective home towns or villages. Here is why our home towns will always have a special place in our hearts.

They say that “Home is where the heart is.”

1. Your hometown is the place which holds countless happy memories of your childhood and youth.

All the gullies where you played cricket, the little shops at the corner, visits from the pados ki aunty and many more.

2. It’s the one place where you don’t need to put in an effort to fit in.

You just know that you belong! The way of life, the dialect and the regular humdrum of everyday life put you at ease and give you peace of mind.

3. You know all the shortcuts, long-cuts, hang outs and routes like the back of your hand.

It takes you half as much time to reach just about anywhere.

4. The chaat, gol-gappa, kulfi and street food you get there is out of the world.

You can’t explain it, but the flavor in the food you get there just cannot be found anywhere else.

5. And you know what the best thing about this place is? The local people. Silly or cool, crazy or kind, they’re your people!

6. Life would be incomplete without the get-togethers with your childhood friends and those delightful family gatherings at your regular “adda.”

7. It’s a place which teaches you, “jeene ka andaaz.”

It’s not just a town or a village, it’s a thriving community composed of all those nosy yet endearing neighbors and uncles and aunties of your colony or neighbourhood. And from this motley group of people, you learn a lot of valuable lessons.

8. It’s a place where you don’t feel scared or left out.

It gives you an amazing sense of confidence. You know that as long as you’re there, you can get away with everything. Even this;

9. As you have grown, you’ve seen your town or village grow over the years as well.

So you know how it was 20 years back and 20 years later, you’ll still call it home.

10. You can’t stand it when someone talks trash about your home town.

When your friends from other towns criticize your home town, you become aggressive and come up with reasons both emotional, logical and downright weird to show them how awesome it is.

11. And then there’s the aroma.

You never notice that your town has one until you step out and live in another city for a while. When you come back and step out of the train, bus or plane, somehow, the air you breathe in is so familiar. Just how?

12. Your home town will always hold a special place in your heart because it had a huge part in making you who you are today. And it will always be Home Sweet Home.
