Indian opener KL Rahul struck another fifty on the first day of the third Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. And with the fifty, the Karnataka cricketer equalled the world record belonging to Kumar Sangakkara, Everton Weekes, Andy Flower, Chris Rogers and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Rahul is the sixth cricketer to score seven consecutive 50-plus scores in Test cricket.

This was Rahul's second fifty of the series after he struck 57 on his return in the Colombo Test. The batter had missed 2017 IPL and ICC Champions Trophy due to a shoulder injury. His 50-plus score in the second Test helped him equal the record of six consecutive fifties held by Gundappa Vishwanath and Rahul Dravid.

Rahul now also has the most number of fifties to his name in 2017. With his latest fifty, the right-handed batsman went one ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara and Dean Elgar.
