Mithali Raj on Sunday surpassed Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer for India in T20I cricket.

In a surprise move, Raj was sent in to open the innings against Pakistan, as India was eyeing a payback for their two-run loss in the last T20 World Cup.

On her way to an attacking 47-ball 56, Mithali Raj went on to reach 2232 runs in her T20I career and now sits on top after becoming the highest run scorer for India.

Raj could have achieved this feat in the last game against New Zealand but didn’t get an opportunity to bat.

However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made sure to use the veteran’s experience by sending her to start the innings with Smriti Mandhana at the other end. Together, they added 72 in 9.3 overs to give India the platform to score a massive total.

On her way to the brilliant innings, she surpassed Rohit Sharma who has 2207 runs in 82 ODIs. She had earlier surpassed Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who has 2012 runs in 72 innings.
