The Rajasthan Police has detained 35 Pakistani nationals for allegedly violating their visa conditions. The Pakistani nationals were detained in the Ramdevdra district of the state on Saturday for having inadequate documents.
According to a report in the Indian Express, all 35 of them had visa only to visit Mathura and Haridwar, but not to go to Rajasthan.
India and Pakistan follow a city specific visa regime, according to which, a Pakistani needs permission for every city that he/she wants to travel to in India and vice versa. Although India and Pakistan signed a long-pending visa agreement to ease travel in 2012, the new visa regime only eased travel restrictions for businessmen and introduced a new category of group tourism.
According to the latest agreement that was signed, visas continue to be city-specific, but now in place of three cities, applicants can visit five cities in one visit.
